WHY AMERICAN FOOD?

Lucy’s Pie House & Grill began in Maryland, where Lucy’s love for American food started. After moving to Ecuador at 9, she aimed to replicate the delicious homemade pies, brownies, and burgers she enjoyed back in the US.

An old cookbook led Lucy to experiment with recipes, and a mistaken brownie recipe became her signature dish. Her passion for cooking grew, leading her to open the first Pie House & Grill in Quito in 2010. Using 100% Black Angus beef and fresh ingredients, her restaurant quickly became a hit.

Today, “Grupo Lucia” includes multiple restaurants and coffee shops, with Lucy’s homemade approach supporting over 300 families.

Our Journey – From Maryland to Sealy!

By Lucía

Lucy’s Pie House and Grill is opening its doors in the quaint, warm, and friendly town of Sealy, Texas.

The pandemic brought many changes and new perspectives to all of us. During those difficult times, our associates empowered themselves and worked selflessly and even heroically to keep the businesses afloat. Many showed up to work for free, doing food deliveries, watering plants, or feeding our usual feline visitors.

I was moved and inspired beyond belief! As restaurants started reopening and people slowly returned, we found ourselves with the strongest, most motivated, and united team imaginable. Our business boomed again! Patrons appreciated the safety standards we implemented and were happy to come out. We became more efficient, creative, and kinder to each other. This was like jet fuel for our dreams.

During the pandemic, we had long, relaxed conversations with close friends and family. We weighed every idea and business possibility and came to a consensus. My kids and I decided to take this project to another level and bring it back to its roots: Southern USA.

So, the adventure began. My American daughter-in-law and I embarked on a 3-week road trip to find a small commercial building. Starting in Houston, we planned to work our way up to Florida.

Right away, we met a realtor who was a “friend of a friend” and now our friend. In just 2 days, she found exactly what I was looking for: a beautiful, recently renovated historical building with a gorgeous old-style bar and original stools in Sealy, less than an hour from Houston.

It was exactly how I had fantasized it would be! I immediately took the chance and agreed to buy it.

Some people thought I was crazy to buy the first property shown to me. Some thought it was a bad idea for a South American cook to open a classic American restaurant in the United States. But I believed a new perspective on healthy, old-fashioned, made-from-scratch food would be welcomed by many, especially in a place where this kind of food is cherished. Childhood tastes and smells warm our hearts and bellies, especially when encased in a beloved historical building with so many happy memories. We are so happy to be here in Sealy!
